Seminar on IPR & Biodiversity on 30th Sep 2014 at Thiruvananthapuram.[L-R]L-R: Hon'ble Minster for Forests and Environment, Govt of Kerala, delivering the inaugural address as Mr Solomon Pushparaj, Deputy Director, CII Thiruvananthapuram Zone, Mr Ajay George Varghese, Chairman, CII Kottayam Zone and Mr Oommen V Oommen, Chairman, Kerala State Biodiversity Board.
The seminar provided a platform to learn and share experiences on the procedures and practices in IPR with focus on Biodiversity. The seminar helped create awareness and improve factual understanding on implications that Biodiversity and IPR has for Industry and stakeholders using bio-resources. Speakers at the seminar helped explain the implementation status, issues and concerns on the Biodiversity Act and Rules and also the intricate relationship between IPRs and biodiversity. There was also a discussion on framework and guidelines on access and benefit sharing. An elaborate discussion on the international perspective on IPR regimes by linking to CBD as compared to Trips Agreement and also on exploring the country’s biodiversity for value based products for the Agri Industry.
