With the objective of building greater awareness and consensus on various issues critical for the country’s growth, CII has launched a monthly publication called Policy Watch. It is widely circulated to all stakeholders, particularly to membership and government to communicate Industry’s views and recommendations across different sectors.
The Indian MSME sector has shown promising signs over the last few years. It however continues to be plagued by some issues, especially lack of affordable finance; lack of appropriate & affordable technology; availability of skilled manpower; infrastructure; marketing and labour & environmental issues.
With more than 70% of members from the SME segment, CII accords a very high priority to the development of SMEs, the dynamic segment of Indian Economy. In line with the CII National theme – “Accelerating Growth, Creating Employment”, the CII National SME Council is working to achieve incremental and Innovative improvements for the growth & development of the SMEs in India.
As part of this initiative, CII has been able to bring to the fore, the key issues before the Task Force on MSMEs under the PMO, and also to the Inter Ministerial Committees for accelerating Growth of MSMEs in Manufacturing and Boosting Exports from MSME Sector under the Ministry of MSME and Finance respectively.
This issue of Policy Watch takes an in-depth look at the SME sector and has outlined some specific recommendations to encourage entrepreneurs and propel the SME sector on a high growth trajectory.
