Indian Industry has lost a Visionary Leader: CII

CII has expressed deep sadness at the passing away of Mr. K N Shenoy who had led the organisation as its President. Mr Shenoy was the President of CII (formerly CEI/ AIEI) in 1986-87. Expressing deep sorrow over his death, CII said that Industry has lost a visionary business leader who served the business community for decades and played a key role in leading CII at a time when industrial sector in the country was working under numerous shackles. Mr Shenoy was instrumental in making Indian Industry quality conscious and led the quality movement from the front, including setting up CII’s Institute of Quality, which he Chaired for over a decade.

Mr. Shenoy continued to provide his guidance to CII till his last and Industry would miss his sagacity and wisdom, CII said in the statement.

Mr Shenoy held a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University and a degree in Business Management from IMD, Lausanne. He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers (India) and a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineers. He joined ABB (then Hindustan Brown Boveri) in 1962 and worked there for 40 years until 2002 of which 22 years were as MD & CEO and 6 years were as Chairman. He had also been Vice Chairman of Volvo India Private Limited and a Director on the Boards of GVK, Carborundum Universal Limited and Sobis Software (India) Private Limited.

He had also been associated with various Industry Bodies such as Indian Electrical & Electronics & Manufacturers' Association and Electrical Research & Development Association, Management Association and Institution of Engineers (Baroda), Governing Council of Central Power Research Institute (Bangalore), Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore) and TIFAC, New Delhi, Member, Governing Board of Centre for Technology Development and Member of Indo-German Consultative Group, Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship.

Indian Industry has lost a great leader in the demise of Mr K N Shenoy, said Mr Ajay Shriram, President, CII. “As one of the key leaders, who worked tirelessly for decades to see Indian industry transform itself to become more competitive, Mr Shenoy stands tall with his inspirational work – especially in the area of quality”, said the CII President.
