CII Mysuru Secondary School Quiz Competition on Science & Technology held today in the City
Top 5 Winners will visit ISRO will have exclusive interactive session with
Indian Outstanding Scientist Dr M Annadurai, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru on 29 December 2015.
National Public School emerged as champions in the Secondary School Science Quiz Competition on Science and Technology organized by Confederation of Indian Industry, Mysuru at Ideal Jawa Rotary School auditorium here on Friday.
Confederation of Indian Industry with support of Science Ashram as a Knowledge Partner organized the competition to promote the interest in science in the community with an aim to motivate and encourage the pursuit of science knowledge among students to take up innovation and scientific mindset as a way of life. The quiz covered areas of science such as Mathematics, Astronomy and Technology so as to challenge the participants’ scientific mind and enrich their vision.
Students from 15 different schools with three members in each group took part in the daylong competition. They had to undergo 6 Rounds consisting of general science and technology; Mixed bag round consists questions from Google doodle; logic & everyday science; latest tech trivia; long visual connect.
National Public School student who were consistent from the beginning pocketed 266 points emerged as winner followed by Kautilya Vidyalaya with 226 points, Acharya Vidyakula with 215 points, Mahajana Public School with 150 points and Sadvidya High School with 148 points. All the five teams will be taken to ISRO on December 29.
The excited NPS students said “Before coming to this event we didn’t expect that we will emerge as champs. But still we had hope and were positive in our approach. It’s really dream come true for us. We are eagerly waiting for ISRO trip which is dream come true for all of us”. NPS School was represented by Nikitha Srikanth, Shruthan and Samarth Kashyap.
To experience Science Labs and Space Monitors and to get an opportunity to interact with top most scientists at ISRO, the winners will be taken to Indian Space Research Organisation, Bengaluru on December 29. The winners were awarded with attractive trophies. The students who will be visiting ISRO will have exclusive interactive session with Indian Outstanding Scientist Dr M Annadurai, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru.
Mr S Nagarajan, Past Chairman of CII Mysuru who distributed the prizes to the winners said “The future depends on the youngsters. Everything starts from bright young kids; the spark gets ignited at this age. I thank Dr N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII Mysuru for sparking the imagination of young mind by organizing such events. One has to go beyond passion for science. The students taking part in this competition have shown it by sacrificing their annual day”. He also mentioned that once the students visit ISRO it will inspire them to take up science. “Past 25 to 30 years no other space agency in the world is comparable to ISRO, includes both cost and mission” added Natarajan.
Dr N Muthukumar who also spoke on the occasion called upon the participants who failed to make it to ISRO to not to lose their heart as they may get opportunity to go for NASA in days to come. “Thirty two percent of Indian population is less than tenth standard. Keeping the future of the country and importance of science we had organised this event” said Dr. Muthu.
