CII’s Eleventh Overseas Office inaugurated by Dr S Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs in Jakarta, Indonesia

The eleventh office of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was inaugurated by Dr S Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs, Government of India along with Mr Thomas Lembong, Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board - BKPM in Jakarta, Indonesia at a special function organized there on 5 September 2019.

Speaking at a special session organized on the occasion of the launch, Dr. Jaishankar said that the opening of the CII office in Jakarta was announced by Prime Minister Modi in 2018 and he was happy to see it become a reality. He further stated that he was confident that with CII office support to industry, the goal of USD 50 billion, in terms of both bilateral trade and investment by the year 2025 will be achieved. He also emphasized that Indian companies should use the CII platform to understand Indonesia and Indonesian companies should use the CII platform to understand India and the opportunities available.

Mr Thomas Lembong, Chairman, Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), said he was happy on the CII office starting in Indonesia. Mr. Lembong stated that in order to improve bilateral economic relations between India and Indonesia an immediate step could be to promote Indian tourism to Indonesia. He also said that Indonesia needs to improve both its imports from India and investment in India.

Mr Pradeep Rawat, Ambassador of India to Indonesia, in his remarks, expressed his happiness over the opening of the CII office on the model of support by Indian and Indonesian industry.

Mr Dhruv Sawhney, Past President, CII and Chairman & Managing Director of Triveni Turbines, stated that CII will be the one point contact for Indian industry to collaborate with its counterparts and be part of Indonesia’s growth story and for Indonesian companies to connect with India. This is part of CII’s new initiative to open offices in select emerging markets to facilitate Indian industry in both trade and investment in these countries.
