Located between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean, Australia is the world's smallest continent but the sixth-largest country. It is the largest country in Oceania as well as entirely in the Southern Hemisphere. The largest country without land borders and also the only continent without glacier, Australia’s population is concentrated along the eastern and south-eastern coasts. India and Australia have several commonalities, which serve as a foundation for closer cooperation and multifaceted interaction. Both are strong, vibrant, secular and multicultural democracies and, have free press and an independent judicial system. The English language along with Cricket forms an important link. Some key collaborations like the Joint Working Groups in Science and Technology and Bio-technology, the Joint Working Group on Education, and the Joint Working Group on Energy and Minerals support the bilateral relationship. With a representative office in Australia, CII is actively involved in various activities taking place on both, business and Government level. The Australia-India Leadership Dialogue organised in December, 2016 by the Australia India Institute in partnership with CII, saw the Prime Minister of Australia share his views on enhancement of economic engagement between the two countries. CII jointly with Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and High Commission of India, Australia, organised the “Make in India Conference in Sydney, coinciding with the visit of Mr Arun Jaitley, Minister of Finance, Governemt of India to Australia.
