We are pleased to present the ninth edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Quarterly Economics Journal, CII ARTHA [Analysis, Research, Thought Leadership & Advocacy]. The journal aims to provide sharp, insightful analyses of key domestic and global macroeconomic indicators that play a critical role in corporate decision-making.
A highlight of each edition is ‘Focus of the Month’. In this issue, the spotlight is on ‘India’s Growth Amidst Global Uncertainty: Resilience, Risks and Road Ahead’. Under this topic, the first article is on ‘From Protection to Competition: Strengthening the Resilience of India’s Economy’, authored by Dr Hagen Kruse and Dr Franziska Ohnsorge from the World Bank. This section also features a contribution from Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Past President, CII and Co-founder, Infosys, who makes a compelling case for R&D as a key driver of economic growth and resilience.
Domestic Trends section presents a comprehensive overview of India’s current economic landscape through five articles. The first article provides an overview of the evolution of India's GDP performance during the first half of the current fiscal year. The second article examines data from the Annual Survey of Industries to evaluate the performance of the manufacturing sector, with a particular focus on sectors covered by the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The third article evaluates the performance of the Indian corporate sector in Q1FY26, while the fourth one summarises findings from CII’s Quarterly Business Outlook Survey for July-September 2025 quarter. The fifth article assesses trends in government capital expenditure, offering insights into its recent trajectory. Global Trends section provides an overview of developments in the world economy.
Under Sector in Focus, this edition places special emphasis on Green Growth, featuring articles that shed light on two sectors at the forefront of the green transition - Green Hydrogen and Steel. In addition, a Special Article by Mr R Mukundan, President Designate, CII and MD & CEO, Tata Chemicals, explores the ongoing transformation within the chemical sector and articulates a bold new vision for its future.
