CII Skill Project Initiatives

Skills development projects are running across the length & breadth of the country with 20 projects already being successfully completed. Projects cover both rural & urban areas. Currently the projects are running in the rural areas in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.

HPCL''s Project Swavlamban is an example of skills for employability through CSR initiatives. Bhiwadi, Rae barelli and Dehradun were successfully covered in the 1 phase in 2006. In the 2 phase training has commenced in Bhiwadi, and training partners have been identified in Bhatinda, Vizag and Mumbai thus benefiting over 1100 school drop outs

Project at Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh successfully led to the certification of 400 candidates in 2005 through external assessment & is further expanding to skill over 2500 young men & women. Recently, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the District authorities for this.

Pravaranagar Project, one of the first efforts of the Skills Initiative at Pravranagar in rural Maharashtra entered the 3rd phase with enrolling 800 candidates for multiple trades in 17 different institutions this year. This is a unique model where so many institutes have been engaged in one project.

The efforts to build new partnerships and excite the industry continued. LPS Bossard Pvt Ltd re-focused their efforts in setting up a vocational training institute to setting up a Skills Development Centre in Rohtak to provide training in multiple skills required in the local area under the CII Skills Initiative.

  • A focused skills training for the plant operators has commenced with Schwing Stetter in Chennai. Currently, 6th batch is under training for Plant Operation and Pump Operation trades. Till now 84 candidates have been trained, certified and provided employment.
  • A number of organizations like Kerala Catholic Society, Convenio Foods, Director General of Resettlement (Armed Force), AIBA and a number of private technical training institutions joined hands to provide training to candidates at benchmarked standards.
