India is utilizing unexplored natural resources through various Agri-tech and allied start-ups: Dr Jitendra Singh
India is now utilizing its exclusively unexplored natural resources through various agri-tech and allied start-ups to fuel its economic growth, stressed Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and MoS in the PMO: Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space. He was speaking at the CII Partnership Summit 2023, organized by Confederation of Indian Industry and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The Minister highlighted that science, technology and entrepreneurships in India are working in a cohesive model to foster the country’s economy. The mission on cleanliness resulted in remarkable and awakened response to build more than 4 lacs toilets for women across the country.
Dr Jitendra Singh also mentioned about the role of start-up ecosystem in accelerating the country’s economy and overall value globally. Today, India has passed more than 90,000 start-ups and more than 100 unicorns quantitively, and numerous sectors, qualitatively.
The Minister stated that there is need for effective linkage to lucrative sources of livelihood to foster the start-up ecosystem to mature as sustainable start-up ecosystem. With the assumption of G20 presidency, India is ready to match the global R&D scale, he added.
Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Past President CII, Chairman, B20 Task Force on Technology, Innovation and R&D, CII, and Chairman, Axilor Ventures & Co- Founder, Infosys highlighted that India has leapfrogged 41 positions in a span of 7 years and has acquired 40th position from the 81st position in the global innovation index. He further mentioned that it has become even more essential to build our economies with more inclusive, innovation-led growth driven by startups, SMEs, and education.
G20 nations must take lead in ensuring a coherent, far-reaching, collaborative ecosystem to build a nationwide innovation movement.
