“The Internet of Things (IoT) is the most happening technological trend surrounding us today, which has the potential to usher in significant transformation in all industries in the coming years,” according to Mr Babul Supriyo, Minister of State for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, GoI, who was the Chief Guest at the CII National IoT Summit, organized at New Delhi today. He added that IoT holds a special significance for India, especially with the target of 100 smart cities, as it would require contribution from each stakeholder to make it a success.
Mr JS Deepak, Secretary, Department of Electronics & Information Technology, in his address as the Guest of Honor shared that Government is ready to work closely with the industry while formulating policies and standards to facilitate developments in IoT space and make India a hub for IoT developments. India already has an M2M Roadmap and DeitY has also come up with a Draft IoT Policy which is under consultation.
Mr Puneet Bhatia, Practice Leader, IoT and Emerging Technologies, KPMG added that we need to put together an ecosystem which involves stakeholders such as Government, IT hardware & software providers, technology providers, and start-ups to deliver results faster to enable India to lead in this area. He mentioned that a report on the Vision of Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 readiness in Indian context is underway and will be released shortly. This report would highlight the need and importance of IoT as India embarks on its transformational journey through Digital India and Make in India.
“The digital space has witnessed major transformations in the last couple of years and the latest entrant to the digital space is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is the interdependence of analytics and hardware & software solutions which brings tremendous opportunities for India and the start-ups for many industries. It also holds special significance in the present Indian context when we embark on our journey towards the vision of Digital India and creation of 100 Smart Cities” said Mr Kishore Ramisetty, Chairman, CII National Core Group on IoT and Senior Director Market Enabling Solutions, Intel Technologies (I) Pvt Ltd.
The Summit highlighted the proof of concepts and solutions in the four sectors – energy, healthcare, transport and manufacturing and the technological solutions that are replicable in the Indian context.
